Homeschool Parenting Discipline and Motivation: Dad's Bailiwick

"Homeschool parenting discipline" and "encouragement and motivation"...An informal poll gleaned these responses from a group of homeschooling Moms who were asked, "What do you want from your husbands?" The unanimous consensus was: Yes, we Moms do most of the actual teaching, but Fathers play a vital role in home education.

Dr. Mark Lowery, professor at the University of Dallas and a homeschooling Father, writes, "In a word, a crucial contribution to the homeschool on the part of the father is his attitude toward his wife. Needless to say, children pick up very quickly on the quality of the relationship between their two parents and are profoundly influenced by it."

Homeschool parenting discipline problems are greatly reduced (or disappear) when Dad takes an active role. If a problem arises, continual monitoring of the situation by Dad may be all that is needed.

  • The youngster needs to know very clearly and consistently what is expected. Show him/her examples of obedience and the other virtues. Study the Bible, lives of the saints and heroes of history.
  • The child must know that there are consequences for disobedience and what they are.
  • Before leaving for work, Dad reminds the child 1) to obey his Mother and 2) that Dad will be 'phoning to check on everyone.
  • Dad calls during the workday to see how things are going at home.
  • If necessary, he can talk to the offender him/her self on the 'phone to quickly remind him of expectations and consequences.
  • When he arrives home, Dad checks with each child. He asks how the day went, what the youngster learned, and if there any issues that need to be discussed. He makes time to listen and talk.

A Father's encouragement is inspiration for both his wife and children. He must let them know that homeschooling is important and that he is proud of their efforts.

  • Dad can sincerely compliment Mom in front of the children and any and all other relatives.
  • He can fix up the classroom or study area. For example, Dad can build shelves, paint bookcases and refinish desks.
  • Buy tiny homeschool gifts. What a treat--and motivator--when the Father brings little surprises home! They can be pencils, sticky notes or colorful stickers.
  • When inquiring about the day's activities, Dad honestly praises all good efforts.
  • A Father's good example speaks volumes. Children naturally look up to and imitate their Dad. His strong faith and upright character quietly but surely influence them.

Dad sets the pace for homeschooling parenting discipline and encouragement and motivation. Mother and children flourish with his support and inspiration.

Waiting in Trust - A Spiritual Practice

During a time of transition, there is often a period of waiting for the new to arrive - the new within oneself as well as the new outside of the self. During this time, one often experiences the pain of waiting in a state of limitation - a pain that can be perceived as difficult and frustrating. Sometimes, depending on how long one must wait, it can also lead to a sense of hopelessness.

In the presence of pain, we have a choice to make. The waiting may not diminish. It may continue longer than we would like. Yet, the choice is that of waiting with God, or waiting without God.

Waiting without experiencing one's intimate connection with the Divine is intrinsically painful, not only because the ego finds it difficult to delay gratification, but also because the soul or deeper self longs to be set free, and when it finds conditions within or beyond itself that it cannot change, it experiences a state of imprisonment that fetters the soul's expression and constricts the heart.

Within this circumstance, it is not uncommon to feel that God has abandoned oneself, or, that one has lost one's way through making bad choices. Generally, this is not the case. What is likely to be true is that there is no available explanation for why we must wait, and it is up to each soul to either choose to hold the unknowing in alignment with Divine purpose, or to feel it as an aberration - an unjustified, mistaken, unfortunate, occurrence that seems to remove one from physical or spiritual life.

The pain of waiting without God is that of loneliness, of meaninglessness, of wondering what we are doing with our life, whether we are wasting time and should not, instead, be exercising our Will. This option is always before us: What could I be doing instead of waiting? This is the question of the mind and the ego. The deeper question that may only be found within the heart is: What is God asking of me in this moment?

To wait with God is an altogether different thing than waiting alone. It is to trust the meaningfulness in the delayed arrival of what we wish for. It is to trust Divine timing and the strength and commitment of one's own heart to endure. It is to hold the choice to wait as a sacred choice - one that involves surrender of the ego, the Will, and sometimes of what may seem like an easier or more attractive path to follow in order to follow the dictates of one's own soul.

This faithfulness lies at the heart of waiting with God. It is based on the desire to unify one's Will with Divine Will and one's heart with the divine Heart. Thus, though the experience of waiting may be painful to the embodied self which exists within time and suffers the absence of what it waits for, the soul or spiritual self feels glad to be fully aligned with Divine Being and purpose. It feels the richness of this surrender and the joy of doing what the deepest self knows to be right according to an inner standard.

What is needed in addition to trust and patience during a time of waiting is the support of others who are also in process with the goals that they are moving toward but have not yet arrived at. Whoever has a destination that they are aiming toward that they have not yet arrived at is waiting - some with more active movement than others, some with less; some with greater difficulty than others, some more painlessly. Neverleness, each one who masters the time of waiting in trust does so on a foundation of hope, believing that those who seek shall find, and those who wait shall receive what they long for. This is the Divine premise that comforts the soul who waits with God, and in the presence of others who are also somewhere along the path of their individual journey, it enables the embodied self to wait longer, with greater confidence in a hopeful and promising future.

Secret

Dimension of Wellness, How to Achieve It?

What is dimension of wellness?

It's something more than just lack of sickness or having a healthy body....

It's definitely not just some products to make you feel good or be physically fit......

It's to do with how you achieve your full potentials.

It's self-directed and is an ever evolving process of change and growth in your life.

It's also a philosophy of life. It's recognizing the fact that your health means more than just lack of illness or having a healthy body.

Wellness has 6 dimensions - physical; emotional; spiritual; intellectual; social and environmental.

When you attain these 6 dimensions (each one is equally vital in the pursuit of optimum wellness), you're considered whole or complete......

1. Physical Wellness

Exercise, eat well and generally leading a healthy lifestyle are the keys to physical wellness.

Making these right choices about exercise, diet and lifestyle will affect how you feel tomorrow and the quality of your life.

You might want to gauge whether you operate in the realm of physical wellness by these parameters:

  • Eat a balanced, nutritious diet that's rich in vitamins and minerals; good fats; lean protein; complex carbohydrates and fiber
  • Cardio exercise 3-4 times per week to benefit your heart and to improve/maintain your health
  • Get enough sleep
  • Seek medical help when sick
  • Take relaxation breaks daily to relax and de-stress
  • If sexually active, use effective birth control method and take steps to minimize risk of sexually transmitted diseases

2. Emotional Wellness

This is your ability to handle your emotions in a positive and constructive manner, to maintain them in a healthy state.

How you manage your feelings and behaviors; how you recognize your own limitations; how well you cope with stress; how well you express your feeling outwardly and your level of optimism, self-confidence, satisfying relationship, joy and happiness, are major building blocks for your emotional well being.

3. Spiritual Wellness

This doesn't mean you're religious. Rather it's your quest to find meaning and purpose to your life and also be tolerant of the beliefs of others.

Your faith (in religion), values, beliefs, principles and morals define your spirituality.

And the inner quality of being compassionate; loving; forgiving and joyful will help you enjoy your spiritual health.

4. Intellectual Wellness

You've an active mind; receptive to new ideas; think critically; seeks out new challenges; stretch and challenge your minds with intellectual and creative pursuits; being creative, curious and motivated to master new skills.

These are the critical success factors to attain this dimension of wellness.

5. Social Wellness

This is how you contribute to your environment and community and how you build and cultivate better living spaces and social networks.

Basically, you've satisfying relationships; support networks; you participate and contribute to your community and pick up good communication skills and establish social closeness and intimacy.

6. Environmental Wellness

This dimension sees you leading a lifestyle that's respectful to your environment to minimize the harm you do to it.

You practice healthy measures aim to improve the standard of living and quality of life in your community.

You treasure earth's natural resources; conserve energy, buy organic food and products and appreciate what nature offers.

Get Something Out Of Worship Or

SMS Collection Part 1 - Inspiring Practical Humor

The virtual world spurned by the SMS technology has a vast of collection of messages you can forward to your friends, business partners, family or employees. Whatever the occasion or the purposes, there's one SMS message in this vast collection that will suit you and your purposes.

Except for some, like quotable quotes or biblical passages, the authors of these messages are lost in the thread. Unlike email forwards, SMS forwarded to different people don't contain a history of senders. You only see who forwarded it to you. But as a salute to the creative and ingenious people who crafted these, here are some of the broad categories you will find interesting:

Inspirational Collection of SMS. Inspirational messages are usually drawn from passages in the Christian bible or any sacred text aimed at lifting dampened spirits and drawing inspiration from. These messages often remind recipients of practical truths or biblical wisdom in times of great distress or grief. If you know anyone facing difficulty, there's an inspirational message that could encourage them. Example: The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want - Psalm 23.

Graphic Collections of SMS. Non-alphanumeric characters arranged to show a sketch of practical shapes and recognizable designs can accompany text messages. These text drawings help convey emotions and bring your text message alive. From the simple smiley and emotion icons shared by friends, graphic messages are also fantastic flirting tools. Your creativity guarantees a smile. Let's hope the meaning and feeling you wish to convey is as clearly carried across. Example: (((xxx))) good night n sleep tight.

Business Collection of SMS. Usually short motivational messages dispersed to improve employee morale or encourage excellent performance, business text messages shared within and among business organizations. They usually include practical advice and guides to success, growth, planning and strategies. These can either be direct statements or short anecdotes about actual or hypothetical business-related scenarios containing practical lessons. Work-related humor is also part of this collection. Example: To fail to plan is to plan to fail.

Birthday Collection of SMS. There's more than one way to greet your friend or your wife on their special day. Instead of simply saying, "Happy Birthday," be creative and send them a special text greeting you can personalize. You can even go a bit poetic. You can even quote an excerpt from your favorite Hallmark greeting - just be sure to acknowledge your source. Example: It's great to be you when it's your birthday!"

Friendship Collection of SMS. True to its theme, these set of text messages talk about the value of friends and the abstract meaning of friendship by practical illustrations. Sometimes sober, other times touching, friendship text messages can also be a little funny. The friendship collection is an interesting literature of how people today view friendships and their friends, and the value they put in it. Example: I'd rather lose a love than a friend like you.

Jokes Collection of SMS. When you just want to laugh, jokes do a pretty good job at that. Generally, these are funny anecdotes of practical life scenarios that may carry a practical lesson, delivered in a humorous way. Joke texts are sometimes more effective than direct practical lesson teaching. People tend to remember jokes better and are always eager to share them.

Sahajayoga Meditation and Self Improvement

Help through Sahaja Yoga to overcome stress

Sahaja-Yoga works on awakening of primordial energy within us called Kundalini. When the Kundalini rises and crosses the sixth energy centre, it brings us into a state of thoughtless-awareness - no distracting thoughts from future or past are bombarding the mind. All conflicts residing in the mind that create stress, evaporate. We enter into a state of peace within, remaining completely in the present and aware of everything around us.

Sahaja-Yoga meditation brings us into balance.

As mentioned about the human subtle system, we have a subtle body within us that consists of seven energy centres and three channels. In our daily life, either one of these channels can be more active leading to a certain state of our behavior. If we move to the right channel, we become overactive, restless, stressed and tense. If we move to the left channel, we become depressed and lethargic. But if we remain in the centre channel, we become dynamic, energetic, moral - all leading to an integrated personality. The regular practice of Sahaja-Yoga helps us to activate the centre channel.

Finally, Sahaja-Yoga connects us to the All Pervading power. We become one with the energy source, which creates, manages and nourishes the nature and is the primal spring of the energy that is called Kundalini. As we are always connected to the source of the energy, our energy centres are constantly nourished by this All Pervading power. So we always remain fresh and cheerful and do not get fatigued, tired and stressed out and completely enjoy every activity we are involved in.

Medical Research on effects of Sahaja Yoga on Hypertension

Medical Research conducted by physiology department of the Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi, India and Sucheta Kripalani Hospital on varied groups of individual Sahaja-Yoga meditators has revealed that the practice of Sahaja-Yoga is accompanied by a decrease in tension, stress, anxiety, depression and hypertension.

These studies were conducted upon 10 people in the age group of 35 to 50. They were from the department of Physiology and had no previous training in any form of yoga, meditation. They were given two days training by a qualified Sahaja-Yoga teacher in the physiology department. Thereafter they practiced it 20 minutes daily, for a few weeks, under the watchful eyes of the tutor.

At fixed intervals doctors studied the effect of Sahaja-Yoga on the heart rate, blood pressure, the level of the blood lactic acid, VMA in urine, which indicates secretion of adrenalin by the body and the galvanic skin resistance (GSR), which shows whether the patients were tensed or relaxed. All 10 were patients of hypertension; some of them were on drugs. As the Sahaja-Yoga practice progressed, the medicines were reduced and finally stopped. In the 12 weeks the diastolic blood pressure dropped from the 100 to 80 and the adrenalin flow, also dropped. The GSR in the group changed from 43.9 kohms to 164.7 kohms; Mean level being 103.9 kohms

Many people practicing Sahaja Yoga regularly had already reported empirically what has now been confirmed by medical research. The outcomes of the research have shown that practice of Sahaja yoga has had various healing effects on the mind and body leading to improvements in quality of life. Various other benefits of Sahaja yoga on all living things including plant growth etc are being considerably researched around the globe.

Man is the culmination of evolutionary process that has been at work for thousand of years, and has been given extraordinary powers compared to other living organisms, to regulate and control the environment around him. But the ultimate frontier, and one which acts as the source and suffers as the receptor of stress, is the human mind. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has given the mankind a unique gift in form of her discovery of Sahaja Yoga, which should be utilized fully by the being for achieving peace and harmony in his/her daily life while remaining free from stress and tensions.

Effect of Sahaja yoga practice on stress management in patients of epilepsy.

Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences, Delhi.

An attempt was made to evaluate the effect of Sahaja yoga meditation in stress management in patients of epilepsy. The study was carried out on 32 patients of epilepsy who were rendomly divided into 3 groups: group I subjects practised Sahaja yoga meditation for 6 months, group II subjects practised postural exercises mimicking Sahaja yoga and group III served as the epileptic control group. Galvanic skin resistance (GSR), blood lactate and urinary vinyl mandelic acid (U-VMA) were recorded at 0, 3 and 6 months. There were significant changes at 3 & 6 months as compared to 0 month values in GSR, blood lactate and U-VMA levels in group I subjects, but not in group II and group III subjects. The results indicate that reduction in stress following Sahaja yoga practice may be responsible for clinical improvement which had been earlier reported in patients who practised Sahaja yoga.

Sahaja yoga in the management of moderate to severe asthma: a randomised controlled trial.

Natural Therapies Unit, Royal Hospital for Women, NSW, Australia.

BACKGROUND: Sahaja Yoga is a traditional system of meditation based on yogic principles which may be used for therapeutic purposes. A study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of this therapy as an adjunctive tool in the management of asthma in adult patients who remained symptomatic on moderate to high doses of inhaled steroids. METHODS: A parallel group, double blind, randomised controlled trial was conducted. Subjects were randomly allocated to Sahaja yoga and control intervention groups. Both the yoga and the control interventions required the subjects to attend a 2 hour session once a week for 4 months. Asthma related quality of life (AQLQ, range 0-4), Profile of Mood States (POMS), level of airway hyperresponsiveness to methacholine (AHR), and a diary card based combined asthma score (CAS, range 0-12) reflecting symptoms, bronchodilator usage, and peak expiratory flow rates were measured at the end of the treatment period and again 2 months later. RESULTS: Twenty one of 30 subjects randomised to the yoga intervention and 26 of 29 subjects randomised to the control group were available for assessment at the end of treatment. The improvement in AHR at the end of treatment was 1.5 doubling doses (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.0 to 2.9, p=0.047) greater in the yoga intervention group than in the control group. Differences in AQLQ score (0.41, 95% CI -0.04 to 0.86) and CAS (0.9, 95% CI -0.9 to 2.7) were not significant (p>0.05). The AQLQ mood subscale did improve more in the yoga group than in the control group (difference 0.63, 95% CI 0.06 to 1.20), as did the summary POMS score (difference 18.4, 95% CI 0.2 to 36.5, p=0.05). There were no significant differences between the two groups at the 2 month follow up assessment. CONCLUSIONS: This randomised controlled trial has shown that the practice of Sahaja yoga does have limited beneficial effects on some objective and subjective measures of the impact of asthma. Further work is required to understand the mechanism underlying the observed effects and to establish whether elements of this intervention may be clinically valuable in patients with severe asthma.

A pilot study of mind-body changes in adults with asthma who practice mental imagery.

he Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY, USA.

CONTEXT: Despite the growing number of studies of imagery and the use of complementary and alternative modalities as treatments for asthma, research on mental imagery in adults with asthma is practically, nonexistent. The purpose of this feasibility study was to lay groundwork for a larger follow-up clinical trial. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether pulmonary function, asthma symptoms, quality of life, depression, anxiety, and power differ over time in adults with asthma who do and do not practice mental imagery (MI). (Power is the ability to make aware choices with the intention of freely involving oneself in creating desired change.) DESIGN: Randomized controlled study using univariate repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and replacement through block design. SETTING: Lenox Hill Hospital, an affiliate of New York University Medical School, New York, NY. SUBJECTS: Sixty-eight adults with symptomatic asthma, after 4 weeks of baseline data collection and analysis, met requirements for this randomized controlled study. Thirty-three completed pulmonary function as well as self-report tests at 4 time points over 17 weeks. The 16 experimental participants also completed the 4-session imagery protocol. INTERVENTION: Individual imagery instruction (week 1) and follow-up (weeks 4, 9, 15). Participants were given 7 imagery exercises to select from and practice 3 times a day for a total of 15 minutes. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: 1) Spirometry (FEV1); 2) medication use; 3) Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire; 4) Beck Depression Inventory; 5) Spielberger Anxiety Scales (A-State and A-Trait); 6) Barrett Power as Knowing Participation in Change Tool, Version II; 7) Epstein Balloon Test of Ability to Image. RESULTS: There was little evidence of statistical change in this feasibility study; yet, valuable lessons were learned. Paired t-tests indicated there was a significant difference in the total power scores in the imagery group, and in the expected direction (two-tailed, t-statistic = -2.3, P = 0.035) and the choices sub-scale (two-tailed, tstatistic = -2.93, P = 0.01) of the power instrument from weeks one to 16 of the study. Eight of 17 (47%) participants in the MI group reduced or discontinued their medications. Three of 16 (19%) participants in the control group reduced their medications; none discontinued. Chi-square indicated differences between groups (X2 = 4.66, P = 0.05). Persons who reduced or discontinued their medications showed neither an increase in pulmonary function prior to medication discontinuation, nor a fall in these parameters following discontinuation.

CONCLUSIONS: Findings related to major outcome measures must be viewed with caution due to the small sample size resulting from attrition related to labor intensiveness and, therefore, low statistical power. However, the study did provide significant data to plan a larger scale study of the use of mental imagery with adult asthmatics. The study also demonstrated that imagery is inexpensive, safe and, with training, can be used as an adjunct therapy by patients themselves. Its efficacy needs additional exploration. Further research for adults with asthma who practice imagery is important, as current treatments are not entirely efficacious. Lessons learned in this study may facilitate improvement in research designs.

Effects of relaxation intervention in phase II cardiac rehabilitation: replication and extension.

University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor 48109-0378, USA.

OBJECTIVES: To examine the effects of progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery on psychological and physiologic outcomes in adults with cardiovascular disease who were participating in a phase II cardiac rehabilitation program. To examine tension levels, practice patterns, and perceived helpfulness of the intervention reported by subjects. DESIGN: Prospective, quasi-experimental, with random group assignment within sites. Independent replication and extension of a study by Bohachik (1984). SETTING: Four midwestern hospital-based phase II cardiac rehabilitation programs. PATIENTS: Fifty patients who within the preceding 12 weeks had had acute myocardial infarction or coronary artery bypass surgery or both, studied during 6 weeks of participation in a phase II cardiac rehabilitation program. OUTCOME MEASURES: Psychological measures included state and trait anxiety scores on the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and reported symptoms on the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised. Physiologic measures were resting heart rate and blood pressure. Subjective tension levels before and after home practice, practice patterns, and perceived helpfulness of the intervention were examined. INTERVENTION: Individual instruction session in progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery at the phase II cardiac rehabilitation program, followed by daily home practice with audiotape instructions over a 6-week period. RESULTS: No statistical differences at the p < or = 0.05 level were found in state anxiety scores or reported symptoms at study exit. However, reductions in mean subscale scores for interpersonal sensitivity (t [19] = 2.11, p < or = 0.05) and depression (t [19] = 2.07, p < or = 0.05) by paired t tests were found for the relaxation group (RG). The two groups differed at study exit in resting heart rate (t [42] = -2.02, p < or = 0.05) by independent t tests and in systolic blood pressure (F [1,42] = 5.13, p < or = 0.05) by analysis of covariance. The RG had a mean resting heart rate 8.6 beats/min lower than that of the control group (CG) and also had within-group reductions in mean heart rate (t [19] = 2.09, p < or = 0.05) by paired t tests. Contrary to expectation, the CG had a 3.5 mm Hg lower mean systolic blood pressure and within-group reductions in systolic (t [22] = 3.02, p < 0.01) and diastolic (t [22] = 3.83, p < 0.01) blood pressure by paired t tests. CG subjects had a greater number of dose increases in cardiac medications and fewer dose reductions than did RG subjects, who also had a higher number of dose reductions. RG subjects reported frequent practice of the technique, rated it as helpful, and reported lower subjective tension levels after practice. CONCLUSIONS: Findings in this study did not support those of Bohachik (who reported lowered state anxiety and fewer somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, and depression symptoms). More instruction sessions on the relaxation method may have resulted in more positive outcomes. However, the within-group scores for interpersonal sensitivity and depression, the reduction in heart rate, and the receptivity of subjects to this intervention suggest that it may be a feasible and helpful adjunctive therapy for participants in a phase II cardiac rehabilitation program.

Tools to Trump Your Inner Critic

In today's climate of headlines about panic in the financial markets, we need to practice smart fuel for our true prosperity even more. It takes rigor and daily practice. There are effective, simple ways of tapping into the energy of your "Inner Champion" (while trumping those limiting thoughts that sabotage enjoyment and tangible success). A while ago, over lunch I read "The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity" by Edwene Gaines (so far, it looks great, while I don't agree 100% with everything.) I don't find much value in affirmations that are overly positive, feel-good statements that don't seem real. (In my Wake Up Inspired book, there's a bit about "Hold the sugar" and how to create variations on the classic affirmation style that may work better for you.)

Here's one of my favorite ways to create truly inspiring momentum. At lunch, I got out a piece of paper and folded it in half. On the left side I wrote, "Limitations." (These could be limiting thoughts, inner critic attacks, perceived obstacles, etc.) For the right side I wrote," Allowing Abundance."

I like to start with the left side, because that stirs things up in a more penetrating way than if I just start with perky positives. It's useful to take an honest look at our not so pretty parts to see what may be insidiously getting in the way. The questions are simple. But you need to go below a superficial surface to get some juicy answers. I dove in to find some old stories that could still get me in the Achilles heel. What are you worried about?...afraid of?... where are you frustrated, resigned or cynical? These thoughts are not always active on my front burner. I dig down into the dark, linty corners of my old bags, you know? It's a bit embarrassing to reveal here, but hey, we're all human and I trust you can relate.

To preface what I wrote at the time of this lunch, my new book and website had just launched. I was grateful and thrilled. There was plenty of real life stress, too. The left side of the paper showcased that non-rational cocktail that blends fear of failure and fear of success.

The Voice of Limitation Said:

"What if I got carried away and I've spent too much time and effort and money on all of this ...? I could feel really stupid and need to start over or..."

Here's where the Inner Champion comes in, on the right side. It's funny how starting with the whiny stuff actually calls forth a fierce, loving Champion energy in me... like the Calvary riding in. This process taps into something beyond my five senses and logical brain. Over the years of doing this, I sense a very different "voice." It sounds like this:

Boy, that what if I screwed-up martyr story is a popular tape, hmm? It's so old, and it's not your truth, Marian. You're not stupid and you have nothing to regret or worry about. Keep tuning in to your higher guidance and enjoy the prosperity that's here right now... And much more to come.

Back to the Left side for another dip:

"I'm afraid of this turning into a big machine that needs constant feeding. What if I'll feel obliged to keep making more money through lots more hard work to keep paying for all of these people, plus.... And I won't really love my life any more (and oh, by the way that will make you a big fat hypocrite for being the author of a book called Wake Up Inspired.)"

In response to that, energy came in so strong and fast that my hand could barely keep up with the writing:

You are on a joyful path. This is leading to more celebrating, peace and pride. There will always be enough! Enough time, enough money, enough breathing room, enough fun, enough friendship connections, enough music and laughter, enough love, enough nature, enough quiet lunches, enough walking in sunshine, enough guidance, enough clarity, enough support and resources, enough courage and talent, enough growth and enough joy. Always. Trust this. It is the truth.

So, this moved me to well up and breathe a grateful, emboldened sigh.

I was the only customer in a sushi place, and I can hear the Jerry Springer show over my shoulder. Here I am feeling this swell of spiritual connection, joy and inspiration for my mission, while some woman is screaming at her husband to stop having sex with her Mother, or else! (To borrow from Dave Barry, I am not making this up.) It was surreal and a good laugh.

Your Turn:

I really encourage you to try this, even if you've created some form of affirmations many times before. Set an intention to go deeper and higher this time.

Fold your paper in the center. Label your left and right sides in language that is useful to YOU.

Start honestly diving in to that left side. Write it out. Put the pen down. Take a breath, and tune into to a higher energy (you can imagine an Inner Champion, Spiritual guides, a loving universe, whatever works for you). Now pick up the pen and write from that place. When that feels done, start back on the left side with another "fear" or limitation, and repeat the process. You can then toss away the left side and keep the right-using these Champion truths to give you a daily boost in the morning or at lunch, if you like.

Keep up this practice of accessing that energy and let it encourage and embolden you. You'll discover how it grows stronger and more convincing over time. It will also come faster with practice- like going from dial up to high speed. It's fun. And it moves you- inside and out. I would love to hear how this goes for you and wish you all the best! Let me know how I might support you, of course.

The sushi and Jerry Springer parts of this process are totally optional.

Spring Cleaning

I hope this finds you in a positive mindset and sense of a new beginning as the world wakes up from winter to welcome the spring. Spring is the time to give yourself and your life an overhaul. Simply by clearing out the old you will make space for the new to come into your life. Below I've outlined some tips to help you with this process, so start now and get ready to embrace some fabulous new and exciting things and experiences.

1) Physically

Throw out any clothes that you haven't worn or anything that you haven't used in the last six months. Be ruthless, if you don't love it - dump it. That could be old books, photos, clothes, or general stuff that's gathering dust. Also, keep in mind that clutter in your attic doesn't mean that it's not in your energy field; it means that it's in your higher consciousness. So clear your attic out too.

2) Mentally

Set an affirmation for what you would like more of in your life. For more wealth, "I now attract abundance into all areas of my life". Or for more self esteem "When I believe in myself, so do others". What ever it is that resonates with you, write it out now. Then have it as your mantra every day for 27 days. Have it somewhere that you will see it regularly so that you are automatically reminded of it. Soon it will become a reality as you "positively brainwash" yourself.

3) Emotionally

Clear out your emotions. Any situation, person or event that you are ready to let go of - write about it, let all the feelings come up and out and then, when you've said all you need to say - burn it. By writing we are acknowledging our own emotions and by burning, we are letting go. We lay the seeds of our lives in spring. It is a good time to write down what it is that you want in your life. Is it a more challenging job? A pay rise? An improved social life or love life? Allow yourself to dream big.

4) Spiritually

What do you believe in? Spirituality is not always religious. It is important for us humans to believe in something, whether that is God, Buddha, Allah or just "something out there." I had the privilege lately of hearing from a student of mine that since he was attuned to Reiki he "believed again". From that one change came so much happiness; he now believed he had a purpose and that he could serve a purpose. Believing in something special allows the magic back into our hearts.

I hope these tips have been helpful to you. As you're following this guide enjoy the process and always remember why you're doing it - to make room for exciting new life experiences, joy and abundance into your life!

To your potential!

Flash Animation For Lively Design Construction

Flash animation pumps up life into a boring and stagnant website. It uses vector based graphics to create designs that are full of life.

Attention span of the visitor is very short and flickering, therefore capturing their attention becomes very necessary that too in first few seconds. Flash is far better than static images and pictures, giving added meaning to the message you want to convey. On the basis of the purpose, movement in the flash animation can be used to evoke any specific emotion or remove it. For instance you can also get a small commercial designed for your website. The presentation that can be heard, seen in motion and read creates lasting impression.

This technology combines education with entertainment which makes it more attractive as fun is paired with knowledge. The time spans spend by the users on your website increases if you succeed to catch and generate interest. According to your company needs, decide on which emotion has to be showcased through flash animation. It would keep your business ahead of other competitors. Professional look given to flash presentations exerts positive impact on the minds of the customers.

The software widely used for flash animation creation is Adobe flash software allocated in .swf format. The animations are usually created in series in various forms like- vector drawings, videos, raster art and bitmaps resulting in high quality graphics. One can find can many image handlers, flash generator, menu producer, etc on World Wide Web.

Macromedia flash is used to create designs that are high-end, have greater impact, low bandwidth and holds on the visitors thereby enriching web experience. One of the greatest advantage is you don't need to download or install the player. You can drag the file to the browser location and make it function. The flash animations are highly interactive and appealing in nature, facilitating online brand campaigning too.

Myths About Grieving - Part 3

As we continue in this series of articles on the myths of grief I want to discuss the third myth, "Put on a happy face. You'll feel better."

With all the recent emphasis on the Law of Attraction, there is an urgency within the culture to be happy. We attract what we think about, says the Law of Attraction.

If you are grieving, it may be very difficult to find the place of inner happiness. It is possible to put on a happy face while still grieving, but often this merely leads to frustration and inner conflict. What you are probably feeling is a sort of intellectual happiness.

The mind is attempting to think its way to happiness. The mind is correct to seek happiness. Happiness is our birthright. True happiness is timeless. True happiness is beyond the intellect. True happiness flows through an open and honest heart.

So how does a griever learn to experience happiness after a loss? True happiness flows through an honest heart. But what does that really mean?

In my experience, the feelings of grief often go underground rather than reaching a place of inner resolution. When a griever then attempts to "put on a happy face" they may tend to feel frustration and confusion. The inner feelings do not match that "happy face."

I believe there can be an authentic smile in the midst of sadness. But this comes from the honest heart which acknowledges the paradox of missing a loved one while at the same time feeling the joy of the present moment.

This experience can be illustrated by the example of looking at the photo of a loved one. If you have a sense of inner resolution you will probably smile with perhaps a tear of remembrance in your eye. If there is no resolution but there is honest awareness you may smile briefly through an abundance of tears. Either response in this example is honest, because you are aware of your inner feelings and process.

The key here is becoming more aware of what you are feeling in the present moment. Healing and resolution come through honest assessment of where you are right now. The next article in this series will take a look at another prevailing myth - "Be strong. Others are depending on you."

Happiness is a Choice - The Choice is Yours!

Most of us are either feeling relatively happy or unhappy from moment to moment, and we see only one not the other. Some people would rather be certain they are miserable than risk being happy. But the majority of us are all searching for happiness without sorrow, joy without bounds and an inner peace that surpasses all understanding. However, we first have to seek and destroy the unwanted and unnecessary baggage that wears us down. I prefer to call it "Take Out the Trash".

We are all born with an innate ability to let go. Infants and small children do it effortlessly. Because this ability was not under our conscious control, over time we forget how to do it and we live our lives by internalizing every fear, every anxiety and every hurt we have ever experienced. We stack it and pack it and carry it with us. We become overwhelmed with grief, resentment, anger and frustration.

I think it is fair to say that most people believe that life experiences are a function of what happens around them. But the fact is true life experiences are a function of how we relate to what happens. Each person's outer world is a reflection of their inner thoughts and ideas.

Only you can decide what reaction you have to the events of your life. You choose if you see something as an opportunity to show your true colors, or a sign that you should just give up, be angry, frustrated, happy or sad.

No one makes us happy or scared, excited or sad. Our emotions don't happen to us, we decide how we feel. In fact, our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are the only things we really do control in our lives. We can always change what we think feel or do, but first we have to accept where we are and own the experience. After all we alone created the experience.

You cannot resolve sadness you deny, you cannot forgive yourself for a behavior you will not admit to or change any part of you that you insist does not exist. To change and grow, first accept the reality of who you are.

No matter what is going on in your life, no matter how you feel in response to a specific experience, circumstance, situation or memory, there is always one thing you can do. In any situation regardless of the mitigating factors, you can decide that instead of fighting and resisting whatever is going on in your life, you can make peace with it, embrace it and learn from it.

Try not to live you life imprisoned in your past or fixated on your future. Learn to exist in the present moment and choose to be happy. Concentrate on the here and now-it is your life, participate in it!

Work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt and dance like nobody's watching.

Inner Strength - Humility and Compassion

I have had 2 incidents come to my attention in the last few days that have reminded me how important Humility is.

A colleague shared about going to another hypnotherapist for some help and the hypnotherapist tried to dictate what her problem was and only became more insistent when my friend objected.

A client who was horribly abused as a child objected vehemently when I asked if he wanted to connect with that part of his psyche still acting as if it was the child. To my surprise, he said, "No way! I hate him."

These to incidents highlighted for me the ways in which we attack ourself or another because of the arrogance of thinking our view is the true and only view.

One of my spiritual teachers has said that Humility is Compassion towards oneself.

This made sense to me when I realized that it is a kindness to myself to reject fearful thoughts whose essential message is that I'm not good enough, or strong enough, or smart enough, or lacking in some other way.

Seeing this, it became clear that Humility is the source of true
strength. True strength enables us to reject fear and the temptation to act on fear which usually means to commit some form of violence against ourself or someone else.

Fear always has an arrogant aspect to it, whether active against
others, or passive against oneself. It is a refusal to connect with or to share with -- a complete lack of generosity.

I find that thinking about a problem as being just a problem of fear makes it easy for me to indulge it. If I look to see how the presence of fear indicates that I am being arrogant and mean-spirited, it is much harder for me to allow the fearful state to keep my interest. For me, the thought of being arrogant or mean burns and inspires me to find a greater clarity and openness of heart.

It helps to open to Humility as the antidote to the arrogance if I understand that humility is not meekness but kindness to myself. It is a kindness to open to my true relationship with life rather than persist in my fearful fantasy.

Try opening to Humility by simply stopping for 30 seconds, and
stretching your arms out and up towards the sky and breathing in fully and gently. Imagine how you would feel at the end of the day if you took this break to open and breathe every 30 minutes, or every hour, or every time you noticed yourself getting tense. Go beyond imagining -- do it and discover the power of Humility. Can you be this generous with yourself? Good luck!

Reading The Right Books

Reading the right books on different subjects can broaden our mind. Your mind is exposed to different cultures, traditions around the world. Through reading, you get an opportunity to closely understand the cultures, traditions and practices exist in different countries. Reading translated works from other languages will help you to understand the lifestyle, history of the countries from which the book is originally written. Moreover, reading helps you to improve your language also.

Reading helps you to look into the past, to closely observe mankind's travel to this modern world. Reading helps you to travel in a time machine; it helps you to talk to our ancestors. It reveals many secrets for us.

Reading is totally different from the experience of watching a movie, or listening to radi587o. Both these activities require our partial involvement. Reading requires our mind's total involvement during the reading process. So select a calm and quite place for reading. If you are reading a book on a hard subject, this is especially important. A small distraction can turn your mind's involvement from the reading. Make it a habit to read the preface of any book you are going to read. It helps you to understand what the book is really about. It gives an overview about the book, the subject it handles etc. When you read the preface you get an overall idea about the book and it helps you to decide whether to read the whole book or not.

A good book helps to improve our lifestyle, our outlook towards the whole life. Bible is a good example of this. Bible contains the rise and fall of many civilizations; its contents also help one to make changes in his or her life.

Search for fine gifts around the world.

Setting Goals For the Future

Thinking of the future can often be like thinking of some far away land that you have no control or influence over. Those people who are firm believers in fate will say that the future is already mapped out and there is little they can do to change things. These are the people who tend to be unfulfilled and like to tell you how bad things are for them - through no fault of their own. Setting goals for the future means that anyone can actively change their future and be in control of what happens to them.

Setting goals for the future does not mean aiming for something that appears to be way out of grasp. It means thinking about what you would like to achieve in time and planning how you will do this, by setting goals. Some people like to put a time limit on their goals as this can help them to focus more effectively and work with more drive. Others like to just create a goal and make sure that they are always working towards it. Whatever works best for you is the best way to set and achieve your own personal and private goals.

Anyone who wants to plan for their future should think about goal setting for the future as it can give them the determination and drive to succeed, even when life gets tough. There are various ways in which you might aim to do this, you could have your goal in your mind or you could write it down and refer to it. Whichever way you choose to do it you will notice that things start to change when you start setting goals.

3 Keys to Hitting Your Goals

Hitting your goals involves a step by step process. It consist of three keys. Here they are.

1- Write your goal down in vivid detail. Write it down the way you want things to look once you have achieved your goal. If you want a new car it is not enough to write "I want a new car." Instead write "I have a hunter green Lexus with tan leather seats and wood trimming on the dash." Be very specific and write it in the present tense.

2- Look at your written goal several times throughout the day. You are impressing this thought on your mind. Use affirmations as well. Say to yourself, "I have a shiny new hunter green Lexus with tan interior parked in my driveway," Imagine yourself in possession of your dream or goal. See yourself as already having it and imagine the feeling that you would be experiencing if you had what you want right now.

3- Put a date on it. Determine when you will have it and include that date in your goal. In the Lexus example you would write this: As of January 2010, I am in possession of a brand new Lexus. It has tan leather seats and the exterior is Hunter Green. When you put a date on it you help to clarify your target. You know what it is that you want and you have determined when it is that you expect to get it. The date also helps you put more emphasis on taking action so that you complete your goal within a certain time frame. This eliminates procrastination.

And now I would like to invite you to claim your free access to my special report "Setting And Hitting Your Goals" by going to http://www.setandhitgoals.com From Anthony D. Carter a leading expert on Goal Setting.

Goal Setting or How Being SMART Isn't Always the Right Objective

Over the years much has been written on the subject of goal setting with most conventional wisdom coming down in favour of the SMART objective setting process.

SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timebound) has been around since the 1960's and is used by organisations to create effective objectives for themselves and their staff. In fact the SMART objective setting process is taught on many management training programs as the right way to set objectives in any situation.

There is, however, a slight failing with the whole idea around SMART objectives which is, to be fair, not a problem with the process but the wider context in which goals are set. All too often organisations set objectives for their staff only to find that in the final analysis that very few have been achieved or even attempted.

So, what is the problem with this approach to objectives, and why do they so often fail to capture the imagination of employees? The SMART model is missing two very important elements that will nearly always sabotage the take up of any objectives.

WII-FM

Often when organisations impose objectives on their staff the initial question that will be raised is 'What's In It For Me?' and in fact this is a perfectly valid question. A goal or objective whether at the corporate or personal level must be something that is a personal objective. It needs to be initiated, understood and bought-in to the individual for whom it is a goal.

High level corporate objectives by their very nature are impersonal and as such there is rarely significant buy in from employees. Even objectives that are tied in to personal rewards (such as a bonus) do not have a high buy in factor if they are too impersonal. There needs to be a sense of 'I can make a difference to this' at a personal level for it to really be taken up by staff.

It can be often be difficult with corporate objectives around profitability and growth to make these personal, and rightly so. These are corporate, high level objectives and unless an individual is tied in to them in some way (as a shareholder for example) then any attempt to cascade these down to lower levels will fail.

The WII-FM issue is for the most part the highest motivator for an individual and a truly effective goal setting strategy takes this into account.

Fascinating Captain

The other and equally important theme missing from the SMART objective setting process is that of interest. For a goal to be really effective and attained it needs to be interesting, exciting and something the individual can get passionate about.

Too many goals, especially corporate ones, are lacking in the area of being interesting. For example, an objective on quality will only be pursued by someone who believes that quality is of interest, for those people who believe it to be important (but not interesting) they will try to ensure that the quality doesn't drop but it is unlikely that they will go out of their way to ensure quality improves.

Interest in a subject can be generated through corporate reward, however it is rare that this happens as, like the personal side of objective setting, it is outsise the SMART model.

PRISM - the lighter side of objective setting

The SMART model is good and has served for a long time, however in todays modern society, with vast tranches of the working population becoming dissatisfied with their lot a new approach to coporate oblective setting is required.

The PRISM model covers all 5 points of the old SMART process and adds 2 more. PRISM is an acronym for Personal, Realistic, Interesting, Specific and Measurable.

Does this mean that PRISM objectives are not Achievable and Timebound? Not at all, in the PRISM model for an objective to be truly Realistic by definition it has to be Achievable, if it is not achievable then it isn't and could never really be realistic.

As for the time element of the objective this is covered by measurable. In a science experiment for something to be measurable it needs a start and an end, in life the same applies, if an objective is to be measured it has to be measured against time as well as any other measure, so in the PRISM model Measurable means against all criteria and not splitting out the time elements.

It's all Me, Me, Me

The PRISM model doesn't profess to be the ultimate solution for corporate goal setting woes however the addition of the personal and interest features into the process will add new dimension to the objective setting process and will guarantee that the objective has a considerably higher take up than those set with the SMART model.

Corporate goals do not have to be faceless and force fed onto the workforce, by making any objective Personal to the individual and of Interest (with or without reward) then your chances of actually attaining it will dramatically increase.

So, next time there is a strategy session and the subject of goals appears, just ask yourself 2 questions, 'What does it do for me?' and 'Just how interested am I in this?', if you can't answer those then perhaps, just perhaps, you need to rethink your goals.

Christianity As the World Changes

Most people seem to go through life doing what others do and never seem to question much about whether the people around them are actually right or wrong. How many of us do exactly what our parents, grandparents and great grandparents do? I was raised a Christian by Christians and they were raised Christians by other Christians and so on. I don't know when or who in my family tree actually decided to become part of the Christian faith. I don't think it really matters today.

Someone had to of made the decision and I will probably never know. I do know this, I have followed Christianity as far as I possibly could and the next step in my life is going to be based somehow on a more spiritually universal world. I can't seem to follow something, that doesn't make sense to me, anymore. Christianity is more or less a religion that people throughout history have made adjustments to, whenever they felt necessary.

This is often like changing a tire on a car as it starts to wear or goes flat. In order for the car to operate and run smoothly we will need to pay a little attention to it, this will require maintenance over time as the car begins to have problems. We have to solve these problems or our car will become useless and will need to be sent to the junkyard.

Religions throughout history have done the same, as the people become more intelligent and less dependent, they need to create new things and make adjustments. If they don't make these adjustments over time, the religion will no longer be necessary and be sent to the junk heap of time. This is what happened to the Greek and Roman gods, what makes you think, that your God or gods will stand the test of time.

Do you think there's going to be any more adjustments to Christianity in the future? It seems like the last adjustments were Scientology and the Mormons or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. These religions don't exactly follow what Paul started in the Roman Catholic Church. What will the next adjustment be and why will it be necessary?

If you choose to follow Christianity, how do you know which church is right, I mean their core beliefs are right, aren't they. To love your neighbor and be compassionate. To show kindness towards others and help the needy. Do you think that we're going to have to adjust this one day and start treating certain religious followers, whose skin color is deference or speaks a different language with cruelty. I wonder what the next adjustment in Christianity is going to be.

Four Agreements

Spreading the Good Word of God Gently

The other day I was walking through the park when I saw a man, an extremely large man reading the Bible. I was minding my own business like I normally do in full observation mode, just simply enjoying life. When what I thought was a tree reading the Bible, moved and scared the crap out of me. This man was about 6'9" and look like he played professional football but when he spoke it was nonthreatening and very gentle.

Have you read the Bible he said. I thought to myself, you have got to be kidding me. Couldn't this person have been smaller and what's he going to do when I tell him that I have but no longer follow Christianity. I liked my face and the rest of my body, should I lie to this man to save my own life or would he be understanding about my beliefs.

I threw the dice out on the table and told him that I have read the Bible and do not believe it is the word of God, the Creator of the universe. I explained to him that, there is a lot of useful information and some wonderful stories in the Bible but that it could not completely be proven as factual information. I continued to explain to him that there was a lot of information in the Bible that contradicted itself and some that simply wasn't true.

He sat back down on the park bench and asked me to join him. I couldn't resist as I always have enjoyed talking about religion and ready to learn something about this man and why he is a Christian. He started to tell me about some recent events that have happened in his life, some bad, some worse and of course some that he didn't want to talk about. However, he did mention a trip to church a few Sundays ago that changed his life.

I was happy for him that he had found peace but explained to him that he is extremely vulnerable to anything right now that can make a little sense out of his life. Be careful I told him, because you could get caught up in something that feels and sounds good, only to find out later in life, that you have questions about Christianity that can't be answered.

I had a very pleasant conversation with this person and I believe he appreciated a few of the points I made. When people are down and out and their lives seem to be really messed up, they're extremely vulnerable to others religious beliefs, whether they're right or wrong.

Don't force your religious beliefs onto others, be kind and courteous to those who are on the edge and having difficulties in life. Explaining to them about your religion and how it has benefited you is wonderful but it might not be as beneficial to someone else. The next time you plan on converting someone who is down in the dumps, make sure that you understand your own religion before you pass false beliefs onto others.

It's like a cancer spreading through the body, most of the cancer cells don't know what they are doing or how much damage is going to be done until it's too late.

Is the Bible Accurate

I'm going to start with the first book of the holy Bible, Genesis chapter 1 verse one through five. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

And God said," let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

If the Bible is historically accurate, did God actually create earth. I have been battling over this, my whole life. It's very easy for someone to accept and believe in any religion, government, other people or whatever they truly desire to make real. I see it every day of my life, open your eyes and you will see it to.

It's hard to imagine that a superior entity like God created everything that we touch and see. The moon itself is pretty big and the creation of the sun would prove to be a little more difficult, but if you're God and your all knowing and all powerful, he or she or it, must be one incredible being.

This is only the first couple of paragraphs in the Bible and there is no, I repeat no, historical accuracy to this event. It seems like God or man, whoever wrote the Bible, should have started the Bible with something a little more believable for people that live in the 21st century. It's not hard to imagine someone 2000 years ago, believing in something like this.

2000 years ago the Romans were worshiping their own gods, we might find this ridiculous today but back then the Romans would punish you if you didn't worship their gods. We are not too far from that today. If we don't stop organized religion and their influence on humanity, we're going to have serious problems in the future.

The biggest problem I foresee is common sense. If the Bible has 500 historical accurate facts that can be proven without a doubt by historians, scholars and other intelligent people, but has one thing that can't be explained, how do we handle this. How do we handle the fact that the Bible states God created light? If this is false, what else is false in the Bible.

Fear - Eliminate It

You will accomplish more than you thought possible by making a strong commitment, without any fear, which will distract you from your intent, dreams and goals. The challenges you face with any commitment is an unavoidable element of the goal-realization process. If you allow fear or worry to come into mind, you can quickly dissuade yourself from pursuing your purpose, mission or dreams.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, the great nineteenth-century philosopher and poet, said, Do the thing you are afraid to do, and the death of fear is certain. If you keep this in mind you can wrestle the biggest success saboteurFEARout of existence.

If you examine the word FEAR, you will realize that other words stick like velcro'afraid, anxious, anxiety and phobia. There are two types of fearreal and imagined. Real fear includesthose things, which have potential danger such as: lightening, tornadoes, hail, snow storms, thin ice, being near wild animals, high risk activities, etc. Imagined fear includes things that are imaginedand have little basis in fact. The sky is falling syndromeFalse Evidence Appearing Real.

Be prepared to do your best in conditions of adversity, overcome your fear through your strength of will, skills, talents and previous successes. Simply avoid thinking failure is an option. If you are committed to letting nothing stop you from success, you will achieve your wildest dreams. The more difficult the path is before you, the greater your determination will serve you. Fear and unadulterated commitment can not co-exist in your mind. It is when you bring the fears into your mind, that they take hold and run the show. If you consistently focus on your intent, dreams and goals and avoid putting fear thoughts in your mind you will succeed.

When you stay focused on your intent, dreams and goals you will see the true usefulness of your aptitudes. As a result, your pursuits that promise to further your success will. As you stay focused on tackling those tasks which have unnerved or stymied you before your determination will allow you to conquer them with little difficulty.

If you are unable to release the grip of fear seeking professional help is warranted. As an inspirational and motivational Life Coach, I know the struggles you have faced. SMART Goal Setting - A Simple Approach to Achieving Your Objectives

After working for almost two decades in marketing where we planned and planned and then planned some more I was convinced the world knew about setting goals. Apparently I was wrong so I'm going to take you through a basic process called SMART goal setting.

As you proactively work through your goal plans you will be motivated to build on your success as each step moves you closer to obtaining a job that is fulfilling and satisfying. SMART goals set you up for success by keeping you focused, efficient and in action. The acronym stands for: Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely

We'll use two examples to illustrate the process. One is a SMART goal example and the other is not.

SMART example: As of July 1, I will phone five employment agencies that specialize in IT recruitment and go for three agency meetings by the end of July.

Non-SMART example: I will meet with employment agencies.

** Specific

The SMART goal provides specific guidance on the 'how', 'when' and 'what' will be done to achieve the goal.

Can you see the different between that and the general goal? In the second example we understand we will meet with agencies but we don't know if we are meeting 2 or 30 or by when?

** Measurable

How will you know if you have achieved a goal if you can't measure it?

In our example we've stated we'll contact THREE agencies to obtain THREE interviews BY the end of a period.

Once all these factors are ticked off you know the goal has been achieved. Going back to our non-SMART example, how would you know if you achieved your goal, how many interviews would it take for it to be complete and over what period?

Establishing specific criteria for reaching a goal allows you to determine how close you are to achieving it. It is also motivating to watch your progress. Measures usually consist of time, numbers, percentages and dates.

** Attainable

There are two locus of control in life: internal and external.

You have the ability to control yourself so a goal tends to be more attainable if it's left up to you.

We sometimes set ourselves up to fail on the external factors which can include: time commitments, relying on others or economic factors.

In our first goal we say we are meeting with three employment agencies over the period of a month and although we're relying on others a reasonable amount of time has been allowed to contact and set up appointments.

** Realistic

Effective goal setting requires you to be willing and able to achieve your goals.

An unrealistic goal may be: I will call 100 IT agencies and set up 30 agency meetings within one week.

Although this might be a viable goal the unrealistic aspect comes into play on the numbers. Of course you can go to IT agencies to discuss your job desires, but it's unlikely you will be able to set up the set meetings in the specified period of time.

** Timely

Procrastination is one of the key goal achieving inhibitors. Our SMART goal provides an end of the month time frame. Our other example is open ended, so for those of us who like postponing action the deadline could be in 10 years' time!

SMART goal setting is a practical way to keep you on track, motivated and working towards achieving your goals.

Set Goal For Exercise Time

Do you feel guilty because you want to exercise but you do not do it? Do you feel out-of-shape and need more energy? Do you use lack of time as an excuse for not exercising? I know I fell into these traps. If you do any of these too, read on to see what you may do to get moving on your desired exercise program.

I am not an exercise enthusiast and used any excuse I could create not to exercise. I hated gym class in school and was thankful that only a few hours were required when I went to college. In college, I went for the easy stuff like badminton and walking. However, later in life after reading various articles and getting repeated warnings by my doctor, I realized that exercise was important for me to stay fit. So did I start to exercise regularly?

No, not until a disturbing event happened at the airport. It was not a security issue for the airport but it was for me. I was on a flight that was late and I had a connecting flight that I had to make. So of course, I rushed off the plane while dragging my carry-on towards the next gate. However, just as I was about to get there, they announced my flight was changed to another gate on the other end of the terminal that I just came from! Then I turned-around and practically ran to the next gate only to end up in a very long line of people boarding that flight. I not only was out of breath when I got in line, I was dizzy and thought I might pass out. I had visions of passing out and going to a first-aid station rather than boarding the plane. I remember thinking, do not pass out breathe deeply because I had to get on that plane after the day I had I really wanted to get home.

That day at the airport made me realize I was greatly out-of-shape and needed to do something. On the plane home, I decided to exercise. Very soon afterwards, I bought a 30-minute workout video. It stayed on the shelf for a few days because I still felt justified in using the not enough time excuse. Did I feel guilty about the excuse? A little, so I tried to do the entire video and ended up exhausted for most of that same morning. My new excuse became I need my energy for other things. Did I feel guilty about this new excuse? Not really, but I did feel a little bad about spending the money on the unused video. So what could I do to improve my attitude?

I use and teach time management principles in my work. I decided why not defuse my excuses by using those principles for exercising. One of the principles I teach is to take a difficult task and break it into smaller chunks. Therefore, I decided to start exercising with ten minutes the first two days and then add five minutes each day thereafter until I was able to do the entire 30-minute video. Now I needed to take the next time management step and plan the time to do the exercising and write it down. I decided the best time for me to exercise was in the morning, so I made an appointment on my calendar each morning called Exercise at varying time allowances. Then I moved my alarm setting back thirty minutes.

Did this appointment work for me? Yes it did! I may not have felt guilty about lack of exercise, but I do feel guilty if I miss an appointment even if that appointment is only with myself. I am happy to say that I not only exercise regularly but also have had the extra bonus of more energy because of being in better shape.

If you would like to begin exercising more, try what I did and make a plan for it. Start by being safe and practical about what you want to do with exercising. To be safe, check with your doctor regarding his recommendations before starting an exercise program. Plan to start small and work your way up to your goal. Be sure you make an appointment with yourself at a good time for you. If you are not good at keeping self-appointments, then get someone to buddy with you and set the appointment with them. Here are some ideas to get you started:
  • If you want to walk or run, start on one side of your street, go for ten minutes, then turn around and go home. Add a few minutes each day until you are going your desired distance or time.

  • If you want to exercise in the privacy of your home, get a video or ask a friend to start with you. If exercising with a friend, mutually decide how many minutes you will start with and what your plan for increasing time and activity will be.

  • If you need help with deciding what exercises to do, you can attend a class. If you are a social person doing things with a group in a class may be the best way to keep an exercise routine going. You may want to start with an easy class and work your way up to something more fast-paced. To determine what type of exercise class to start with call the gym, recreation center, or local Y where you are thinking of taking classes and ask to speak to the instructor. The instructor should be able to give you an idea of what they will be doing, the fitness level you need to have to start, and the benefits you will gain. When taking the class, do not feel you have to do every exercise exactly like the instructor when you start the class. Do what feels right for you. Even if you stop exercising before the class is over, stay for the entire time so you can see what you will be learning next.

  • If you want to use exercise equipment, then try it out a gym first. Some gyms offer a short trial period of monthly membership to let you try things. Do not buy any expensive exercise equipment until you are sure you are dedicated to the exercise time each day. An additional benefit of going to a gym is they have trainers who will show you how to use the equipment properly. Learning to use the equipment properly can prevent possible injury. An added benefit of consulting an expert trainer is they can help you develop a plan to build-up to where you want to be without over-exertion.

Hostility Against "Jewish Holidays" to be History!

    Romans 8:7-8

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

We see some of this hostility hung over into the Millennium (the reign of the Kingdom of God) and quickly put in check by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. All - Jew, Israelite, Gentile - must become converted and have the law written upon the tablets of our hearts and minds, expressed in word and in deed, in attitude and in actions, by the grace of God (Heb. 8:1).

    Zechariah 14:17-18

17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

Thankfully, many others will have a childlike attitude and humbly be excited to learn what most were never taught by their traditional teachers:

    Isaiah 2:2-4

2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days

That the mountain of the LORDs house

Shall be established on the top of the mountains,

    And shall be exalted above the hills;

And all nations shall flow to it.

3 Many people shall come and say,

Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,

    To the house of the God of Jacob;

He will teach us His ways,

And we shall walk in His paths.

For out of Zion shall go forth the Torah,

And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

4 He shall judge between the nations,

    And rebuke many people;

They shall beat their swords into plowshares,

    And their spears into pruning hooks;

Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,

Neither shall they learn war anymore.

Yeshua's Bride will gladly follow His ways and celebrate the same biblical festivals as Him and avoid unclean ways and pagan holidays like the plague! Such abominations will be history and vain traditions trashed. Yeshua will not be unequally yoked.

I'm happy to announce the biblical Sabbath, the biblical Festivals of the LORD, the biblical ways will be kept throughout all the earth, by ALL nations, under the glorious reign of the King - Yeshua - whom some of us honestly call Lord while others take His Name in vain, holding on to their idolatrous traditions of men (1 John 2:4).

    Matthew 5:17-19

17 Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

    Revelation 22:14-15

4 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

Plea to Diehard Catholics & Protestants to Repent

That way such folks won't fall for what's soon to occur, having been forewarned:

Sorcerer-Pope to Bewitch Europe and Mislead the Masses!

Come Lord Yeshua and destroy the darkness by the light of your Word, as foretold in the Law and the Prophets.
