3 Keys to Hitting Your Goals

Hitting your goals involves a step by step process. It consist of three keys. Here they are.

1- Write your goal down in vivid detail. Write it down the way you want things to look once you have achieved your goal. If you want a new car it is not enough to write "I want a new car." Instead write "I have a hunter green Lexus with tan leather seats and wood trimming on the dash." Be very specific and write it in the present tense.

2- Look at your written goal several times throughout the day. You are impressing this thought on your mind. Use affirmations as well. Say to yourself, "I have a shiny new hunter green Lexus with tan interior parked in my driveway," Imagine yourself in possession of your dream or goal. See yourself as already having it and imagine the feeling that you would be experiencing if you had what you want right now.

3- Put a date on it. Determine when you will have it and include that date in your goal. In the Lexus example you would write this: As of January 2010, I am in possession of a brand new Lexus. It has tan leather seats and the exterior is Hunter Green. When you put a date on it you help to clarify your target. You know what it is that you want and you have determined when it is that you expect to get it. The date also helps you put more emphasis on taking action so that you complete your goal within a certain time frame. This eliminates procrastination.
